Organic technology.
This is still an emerging field of research and very little is understood about life which can survive in space without difficulty. Only the Vaipen and Ovaska appear to have mastered organic spacecraft and the appear to follow more or less the same trend; the smaller ships look very similar to the larger ones, and there have been some suggestions that that is exactly the case; the smaller ships are just younger relations of the larger ships. Organic technology has many advantages over normal technology, not least in that it repairs itself and can reproduce (although no-one knows how... the Vaipen and Ovaska are very secretive and no-one who has even come close to finding out much about them has ever been seen again). What is known is that these ships have a symbiotic relationship with the pilot (although this link can be broken) and, in the case of the Vaipen and probably the Ovaska, they are part of a single, race wide, hive mind.
Vaipen Small Fighter
This is one of the few pictures of a Vaipen Fighter that have been recorded. It
was recorded by an Earth ship that ventured too close too Vaipen space. Several
of these fighters appeared and ordered the ship to turn around and not attempt
to enter their space again. Refusal to obey them would result in them opening
fire. Naturally they thought turning back was the safer option. Notice the four
mounted cannons on the front of the ship. They appear to be part of the ship and
not addons.
Ovaskan Scout
An Ovaskan scout ship is believed to be
the smallest Ovaskan ship. Still an infant, the scout is useful as a recon/light
fighter for 10-15 years. The long tail, it is thought, directs propulsive force.
High maneuverability close to that of a Tmirjan results. As Ovaskan ships grow
older, this tail usually shortens and disintegrates. The first effect of
shortening is the loss of nerves; at this point a highly destructive beam weapon
of unknown design is integrated into the tail. The four ports seen at the ship's
front are weapons launchers. Several different types are thought to be combined
into one launcher -- worms, e-beams, etc. Weapons combinations are currently the
distinguishing features of Ovaskan ship races.
Ovaskan Fighter
Scout ships are considered fighters once the beam weapon has been added to the
tail. Their size being 30% larger on average, yet having the same amount of
propulsion, makes the fighters half as maneuverable as a scout. This factor is
countered by a violent psychology taken on by the ship itself -- synonymous with
the "Terrible Two's" exhibited by human children.
